The new ad that came out against Angus King is misleading.

The ad, sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, claims that King left the state with a large deficit.

That happens when you try to create jobs.

The ad is misleading because you cannot shrink the deficit by any meaningful amount and create Maine jobs at the same time.

This country is caught in a situation that we cannot win.

On one hand, we cannot create jobs, such as those that would come by replacing old infrastructure, without driving up the deficit, and we cannot shrink the deficit without losing jobs.

Lost jobs cause the crime rate to go up and also causes the country to slide backwards into another recession.

That could cause the country to file for bankruptcy.

In the end, it may not matter what we do, and the outcome will not be pretty.
