WHITMAN, Mass. — Authorities say a Whitman woman and her friend needed treatment at a hospital after they were attacked by her two German shepherd dogs.

Animal Control Officer Bob Hammond says one woman had bites all over her body while the other woman, who may have come to the aid of the first victim, had bites on her arms and legs.

The women are 30 and 27 years old. He did not release their names.

The dogs have been quarantined for 10 days.

Hammond tells The Enterprise of Brockton the dogs are 4 or 5 years old, and it is unclear what prompted the attack. He says there is no history of problems with the dogs, and attacks by the breed are rare.
