CANAAN– Specialist Clay J. Landry, 22, of Canaan is a 31B Military Police with the 488th Military Police Company, Maine Army National Guard.

He was recently named Regional Soldier of the Year 2012 for the State of Maine-National Guard. He also placed third in the nation in the 2012 National Guard Best Warrior Competition. He is the only Maine Soldier to have the honor of Regional soldier of the year. Landry is also the only Maine soldier to have made it to the National level of competition. Landry has served in the Army National Guard for three years.

Landry is a 2008 Skowhegan Area High School graduate.

He recently graduated from Thomas College with a bachelor of science in business management.

He is preparing to deploy with his unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He is Combat Lifesaver qualified and has a Purple Belt in Mixed Martial Arts.

Landry is the son of Ann Salisbury of Canaan and CJ Landry of Winslow. His grandparents are Walter and Golden Salisbury of Canaan.
