Charlie Summers is not entitled to succeed Olympia Snowe in the U.S. Senate. He’s proven he cannot lead and be independent.
When party chairman Charles Webster conjured up allegations of widespread voter fraud, Summers was quick to take the bait. His investigation confirmed very little abuse, and even that was questionable.
Ahen Webster chose to omit the caucus results of an entire county, to favor Mitt Romney, Summers stood by silently.
Is this the character of a leader? He has submitted legislation to revise voter registration requirements, making it less convenient to cast a ballot, purely partisan politics at its worst.
When the tea party conservatives in Maine attacked Snowe as Republican in name only (RINO), Summers stood by, silently.
He already has signed on to Grover Norquist’s “No tax pledge,” even on the wealthiest Americans. Summers will just be another puppet in the Washington gridlock.
