The Red Sox are giving us a time to be thankful.
No, not for being two games below .500 and having a record worse than 16 teams and better than only 13.
Yes, they have the third-highest payroll at $173,186,617 and are getting about one-tenth of that in return. On paper, their pitchers owe us 21 more wins then they’ve given us.
Blame the manager if you think that’s the problem.
Instead, let’s be thankful; 2004 was amazing! Those players were terrific, the manager was great, and 2007 just confirmed it. Thanks to the Red Sox for the memories.
Next year, we hope they spend their money on pitching, and not bats. They already lead the league in batting, but look where that gets us.
