LOUDON, N.H. — A man is recovering from a car fire in Loudon, N.H., after an off-duty firefighter and neighbors rushed to the scene to save him.

Rich Edgecomb heard what sounded like a tree hitting his house on Sunday. The car had crashed and caught on fire, and the driver was trapped inside.

The off-duty firefighter told WMUR-TV he found a fire extinguisher in the back of the car and put out the fire before focusing on the driver.

He said it took 45 minutes to cut him out of the car.

Investigators said the driver was conscious and talking. He was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. His name and condition have not been released.

Loudon police are still investigating.
