DANVILLE, N.H. — A New Hampshire town selectman has been asked to resign after fellow board members said he ignored the police chief’s decision to cancel the outdoors Movie Night because of a rain threat.

Danville Board Chairman Shawn O’Neil says Russell Harding was convinced it wasn’t going to rain and asked the chief for the key to the equipment. O’Neil said Harding brought the projector, screen and other equipment to a field, even though residents were notified hours earlier that the movie would not be shown.

It didn’t rain, and one family showed up for the postponed event. But O’Neil said it doesn’t matter.

Harding told the Eagle-Tribune he regrets what he did, but doesn’t think he should resign.
