BAR HARBOR — Aidan Fitzgerald threw three touchdown passes to three different players and the Waterville football team opened the regular season with a 36-14 thumping of Mount Desert Island on Friday night.

The teams were scoreless after the first quarter before the Purple Panthers (1-0) lsurged ahead in the second.

Fitzgerald threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to David Bailey before Cam Thomas rushed for a 36-yard score.

Sophomore Jared Spear then kicked a 21-yard field goal.

Jordan Levine hauled in a 59-yard touchdown pass from Fitzgerald early in the third before MDI (0-1) got on the board when John Phelps returned an interception 95 yards for a score.

Waterville led 23-8 after three quarters and put the game away when Nick Danner caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Fitzgerald.

Thomas added a 3-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring for the Panthers.

Mt. Blue 55, Brewer 22: Jordan Whitney threw for three touchdowns and more than 300 yards to lead the Cougars in the PTC B opener in Brewer.

Mt. Blue (1-0) led 28-14 at the half before putting the game away with three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter.
Whitney threw a 37-yard touchdown to Nick Hyde and Bradley Jackson rushed for score — his second of the game — in the quarter.

Calan Lucas rushed for a 67-yard touchdown as well.

“We had a good, strong third quarter that kind of put it away,” Mt. Blue coach Gary Parlin said. “We know our offense is strong.”

Whitney threw two touchdwn passes to Hyde and another to Cam Abbott.

Stearns 52, Mt. View 20: Riley Whitney, Bart Lyons and Jordan Morrow each rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead Stearns in a Little Ten Conference game in Millinocket.

Stearns led 28-0 in the third quarter before Mt. View (0-1) got on the scoreboard on a Will Nunn 5-yard touchdown run.

Nunn would add touchdown runs of 53 and 6 yards to lead the Mustangs.
He rushed for more than 160 yards.

Winslow 27, Poland 26: Junior fullback Zach Guptil rushed for a 1-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to snap a 20-20 tie and the Winslow defense came up big in the final minutes to pull out a Western C Campbell Conference victory.

Winslow tailbacks Joe Hopkins and Dylan Hapworth each scored touchdowns for the Black Raiders, who stuffed a two-point conversion with just under two minutes remaining to preserve the victory.

Orono 58, MCI 8: Norton Revelle scored four touchdowns to lead the Red Riots past the Huskies in Little Ten Conference play in Orono.

Christian Mowrer added a pair of touchdowns for Orono (1-0).
