RICHMOND — The defending Class D state champs jumped out to a two-goal lead and hold on to beat Old Orchard Beach 2-1 in the season opener for both teams Friday.

Amber Loon and Sadie Gosse both scored for Richmond (1-0-0). Gosse also had an assist on Loon’s goal, on a corner kick which Loon one-timed into the net. Kelsie Obi earned the win with six saves.

Anna Foss scored for OOB (0-1-0), while Haley Plante had six saves.

Erskine 6, Skowhegan 1 : Avery Bond two goals and an assist, while Kelly McCormack had a goal and two assists to lead the Eagles over the Indians in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game in Skowhegan.

Bridget Humphrey, Abigail Glidden and Courtney Bonsant also scored for Erskine (1-0-0). Jade Canek, Alyssa Gartley and Rebecca Reed each had an assist.

Cailee Manzer had the lone goal for Skowhegan (0-1-0) with an assist from Lindsey Booth.

Paige Leary and Mattie Lajoie combined for four saves for the Eagles, while Andrea Quirion had 24 saves for Skowhegan.

Oak Hill 2, Spruce Mountain 1: Alyssa Rouleau scored the game-winning goal with 6 minutes left to lift the Raiders to a KVAC B win in Wales.

Sarah Barbay had the other goal for Oak Hill (1-0-0) while Gabby Green assisted both goals. Kelsey Collins made seven saves.

Hayley Doyon scored with an assist from Vanese Barnes for Spruce Mountain (0-1-0). Emily Keene made two saves.

Telstar 1, Winthrop 1: Adrienne Tracy scored with assist from Annie Guerette to tie the game as the Ramblers settled for a Mountain Valley Conference tie in Winthrop.

Ashley Savage scored unassisted for Telstar (0-0-1). Courtney Currier made 10 saves.

Danielle Pease stopped 12 shots for Winthorp (0-0-1).

Mt. Blue 2, Cony 0: Eryn Doiron scored in the first half and Chelsea Newhall in the second as the Cougars beat the Rams in the KVAC A opener for both teams, in Farmington.

Mackenzie Conlogue had an assist on Doiron’s goal for Mt. Blue (1-0-0). Thia Bridges had 10 saves and Gabby Foy five for Mt. BLue.

Autumn Sudsbury had 22 saves for Cony (0-1-0).

Gardiner 8, Lincoln Academy 1: Ally Day scored five goals as the Tigers cruised to a win in their KVAC B opener, against the Eagles.

Kylee Granholm, Katie Owen and Morgan Carver each added a goal for Gardiner (1-0-0). Madison Cutler stopped five shots.

Ali Gorrill scored the lone goal for Lincoln Academy (0-1-0). Barrett Campbell had nine saves.

Field hockey

Cony 1, Brewer 1, 2 OT: Jenna Harwood scored to tie the game as the Rams played the Witches to a tie in a KVAC A game in Augusta.

Rachel Triplett scored an unassisted goal to give Brewer (0-0-1) a 1-0 lead.

Abby Naborowsky had an assist on Harwood’s goal, while Kevie Rodrigue had 14 saves for the Rams (0-0-1).

Gardiner 1, MCI 0: Nicole Chadwick scored an unassisted goal with 28:14 left in the first half as the Tigers beat the Huskies in the KVAC B opener for both teams, in Pittsfield.

Emalee Couture earned the win with five saves for Gardiner (1-0-0). Courtney Spraque had seven saves for MCI (0-1-0).

Winthrop 6, Telstar 0: Lauren Kaiser scored two goals and had two assists and Emmah Spahr had two goals and an assist as the Ramblers defeated the Rebels in Bethel.

Also scoring goals for Winthrop (1-0) were Jess Ames and Rachel Ingram, while Kat Ouellette, Shauna Carlson and Micaela Hajduke added assists.

Meg Glover made 10 saves for Telstar (0-1).

The game ended with 16 minutes to play in the second half due to lightning.
