WORCESTER, Mass. — A former Massachusetts man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for cheating the federal government out of $3 million in tax revenue because of what prosecutors called a grudge against the Internal Revenue Service.
William Scott Dion, who once lived in Uxbridge but now lives in Sanbornville, N.H., was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Worcester following his conviction in April on charges of obstruction of the IRS and two counts of conspiracy to defraud the United States.
The conspiracy involved a scheme to set up dummy corporations and other steps that enabled the 53-year-old Dion’s clients to avoid paying taxes.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that Dion told the judge he was a “constitutionalist” and his actions were “to keep the IRS in line,” but he apologized.
