SKOWHEGAN — Lake George Regional Park will celebrate its 20th anniversary during 2012 because of the support of local businesses, individuals and volunteers. Join the celebration by visiting the park for a paddle, swim, hike or be part of one of our upcoming events including:

* Skowhegan Area Chamber Business After Hours at the parks, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, west side.

* Great Maine Outdoor Weekend event, 1-4 p.m. Sunday Sept. 30. This event is held in partnership with Skowhegan Recreation to create free family fun day at Lake George west side.

* Annual fall auction and spaghetti supper will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Skowhegan Recreation Center. Auction donations are needed.

Established in 1992 and owned by the state of Maine, the park is leased by the towns of Skowhegan and Canaan and managed by the Lake George Corporation, a non profit. The organization receives no funding from the state and relies on contributions from businesses, individual donors, program and gate fees to support operating costs from year to year.

The park serves communities within a 50-mile radius. Each year approximately 20,000 people visit the park, utilizing the swimming areas, picnic areas, the extensive trail system, boat launch and various buildings on the 320-acre park. The park is also a destination for school groups, boy scouts and girl scouts outings, and other service learning organizations.

During the summer, the park hosts Camp Podooc for more than 200 Skowhegan and Canaan children, offering a nature, arts camp and swimming lessons for children in grades 1-6.
