OAKLAND — Casey Smedberg of Oakland, a senior at Gordon College, with a double major in English and political science, spent her junior year at Oxford University in England. She also achieved a 3.97 grade-point average at Gordon while studying at Wycliffe College at Oxford University.

At the conclusion of her time in England, she was one of 11 chosen to receive the DeJager Award for exceptional performance at Oxford, and, specifically, on her thesis. There were more than 50 candidates and the award came with a financial gift for her efforts.

She is a 2009 graduate of Temple Academy in Waterville.

Smedberg is the daughter of Mark Smedberg and Kathy Harris-Smedberg of Oakland.
