Seems those opposed to marriage equality haven’t been paying much attention to the state of marriage in general.

Government statistics show us that the American family has changed. With 40 percent to 50 percent of all marriages ending in divorce, and four out of 10 children being born to single mothers, the ideal concept of family (husband, wife, 2.5 children) is a 1950s TV fantasy.

While the foes of marriage equality may not like it, the stark reality is the new American family is now made up of blended families, single parent, multiracial, multigenerational and co-habitating couples.

These are but a few examples of what constitutes families today. Each is valued and founded on commitment and love. Any family unit is hard work and sacrifice, and should be protected and given the same rights and responsibilities of any other.
