AUGUSTA — Free admission to the Maine State Museum in Augusta, will be offered Saturday, Sept. 29, to all who seek out a Museum Day card from the Smithsonian magazine or print a pass found on the Smithsonian website.

The free-admission card is available in the September 2012 issue of the Smithsonian magazine, or by visiting smithsonian.com/museumday, which presents a simple form for completion and printing.

The eighth annual Museum Day is a celebration of the culture, learning and entertainment found in the nation’s museums. Visitors to the Maine State Museum frequently compare the quality of exhibits to those of the Smithsonian, and the free admission Museum Day Card presents an opportunity for folks to come see for themselves.

The Maine State Museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday (through Nov. 25). The museum is closed Mondays and all state holidays. Admission cost $2 for adults; $1 for senior adults older than 62 and children 6-18 years old; children younger than 6 get in free.
