In his letter published on Sept. 14, Ed McCarthy ignores history by stating that if Israel reaches a just and lasting peace with the Palestinians, much of the rationale for Arab and Iranian hostility toward the Jewish State will be removed.

In 1993, Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization entered the Oslo Process, which was to lead to lead to final status talks on the West Bank and Gaza by 1998.

Palestinian terrorism sabotaged the process.

In 2000, Israel and the United States proposed to the PLO a West Bank and Gaza state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This was rejected by the PLO, which soon after launched the “al Aqsa intifada” which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,0000 Israelis and 4,000 Palestinians.

In 2001, the offer was repeated, and again rejected by the Palestinians.

Once again, in 2008, Israel repeated the offer including land swaps, which also was rejected by the Palestinian Authority.

Israel can not do it alone. It takes two to tango.
