WATERVILLE — Kennebec Messalonskee Trails will host the fourth annual mushroom event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Quarry Road Recreational Area.

Mushroom expert Richard Tory will present a workshop “The Top 10 Choice Edible Wild Mushrooms.” The demonstration will feature instruction on foraging, identifying and preparing choice edible fungi. Beginners will be introduced to the basic tools and practices for safely enjoying many common species of wild mushrooms with an emphasis on those easiest to identify.

There will be a self-guided tour with signage of mushroom sites found on and off the trails.

Although mushroom samples will be presented at the workshop, this will be an educational event and mushrooms will not be harvested from the area so they will be available for all to observe.

This event is free and will be held rain or shine. Donations to KMTrails will be gratefully accepted. For more information or to volunteer, visit kmtrails.org or call 872-2940.
