Pittsfield Public Library

The Pittsfield Public Library’s Book Discussion Group welcomes new readers. A meeting is planned for 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Warren Community Room. Books to be discussed are “Train Dreams” by Denis Johnson and “Wrinkle in Time” by Madeline L’Engle. To join, call the Library at 487-5880 to have a book ordered for you.

Library Skills classes will resume for the 2012-13 school year. On Monday, from noon to 1 p.m., middle-school students can investigate the interview process. On Monday, Oct. 1, from noon to 1, library orientation is planned for elementary-aged students. These classes meet Maine Department of Education requirements for library skills for home-schooled students.

Play Group will meet 10:30 a.m.-noon Wednesdays in the children’s area. Young children and their caregivers can socialize in an informal, fun setting. Playgroup is supervised by caregivers, not library staff.

Library hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Saturdays.

Winslow Public Library

Winslow Public Library has resumed regular fall/winter/spring hours, which are: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

The book discussion group will meet 6:30-8 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 2. The group will discuss “Poacher’s Son” by Paul Doiron, a story set in the wilds of Western Maine.

The Scrabble Club will meet 6-8 p.m. the second Friday of each month.

The Knitting Circle meets from 1 to 3 p.m.. every Friday.

Story Time is 10-11 a.m.. every Tuesday.

New members are always welcome.

The library has two laptops available for in-library use. In addition to the use of usual applications, they may be reserved for Skyping or online video conferencing and chatting.
