FARMINGTON, Conn. — The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine says it’s meeting its goals for job creation and facilities planning and design, as it operates in a temporary space at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

The laboratory plans to submit a status report to the Connecticut legislature on Monday.

The report details the progress on the new Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, with groundbreaking scheduled for January. The report says the lab is on track to meet its hiring goal of 27 new employees by the end of 2012, with 21 people already hired.

The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution based in Bar Harbor, Maine, with a new genomic medicine institute in Farmington. Its mission is to discover the genetic basis for preventing, treating and curing human disease.
