JEFERSON — Hidden Valley Nature Center on Egypt Road will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30.

Scheduled events include:

* A bog boardwalk with Bob Zottoli from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* “Working Forest” walk with the center’s director, Gary Hayward, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Hayward will talk about sustainable forestry practices and the principles of low impact logging.

* Naturalists Chuck Dinsmore and Jason Chandler will help participants learn to identify broadleaf trees from 11 a.m. to noon.

* Demonstration on primitive fire making led by Jason Chandler, noon-1 p.m.

* Kids’ Walk in the Woods led by Andy Shultz of the Maine Forest Service, 1-2 p.m.

* African drumming performance led by Judy Nielsen and her group of students, 2-3 p.m.

Children’s activities are scheduled throughout the day. Families are encouraged to attend. There is no cost. There will be hot cider and an outdoor fire.
