AUGUSTA — Police departments, sheriff’s offices and state police barracks are collecting unwanted and outdated prescription drugs so they can be disposed of safely as part of a national drug disposal initiative.
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In Maine, more than 150 law enforcement offices are taking the drugs, which should be in their original containers with labels.
Last fall, more than seven tons of unwanted drugs were collected in Maine, making it the No 1 collection state in New England and the sixth-ranked state nationwide.
