SOMERVILLE, Mass. — The Bates College football team rushed for 309 yards and edged Tufts 31-23 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.

Trevor Smith rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries to lead Bates (1-1). Patrick George rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown as well. They were two of five players to rush for more than 40 yards against the Jumbos (0-2).

Amherst 22, Bowdoin 10: Max Lippe rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead Amherst to the NESCAC victory in Brunswick.

He completed 18 of 22 passes for 141 yards. Lippe threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Wade McNamara (8 catches, 81 yards).

Greg Pierce rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries to lead Bowdoin (0-1).

Worcester State 47, MMA 34: Corey Spencer completed 23 of 30 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns to lead Worcester St. (4-1) in Castine.

Casey Hippert caught six passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. AJ Scerra had nine catches for 106 yards as well.

Billy Wetherbee rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead MMA (1-4). Shane Sullivan had two catches for 81 yards and a touchdown for the Mariners as well. Lawrence grad Brock Lawrence made nine tackles for the Mariners.

Becker 34, Husson 7: Robert Baker passed for 491 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for 43 yards and another touchdown as the Hawks defeated the Eagles in Leicester, Mass.

Baker completed 30 of 45 passes. Luis Sanchez had 11 catches for 241 yards and a 94-yard score. Corinthian Bostic hauled in five passes for 110 yards and two scores. Becker is now 1-2.

Kents Hill grad Ryan Dorso led Husson (1-2) in rushing, with 66 yards on 17 carries. Dorso also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence grad Devin Sherman for Husson’s only score. Sherman had three receptions for 60 yards.
