ROCKLAND — A Maine man accused of shooting a man multiple times and killing him tells police that the victim was a drug dealer who’d cut him off.

Andrew Kierstead of Tenants Harbor has been charged with murder in the shotgun killing of 48-year-old Richard Mills on Thursday. Mills was found in his driveway in Cushing.

Kierstead, who was ordered held without bail in Rockland District Court on Monday, told police that Mills got him hooked on drugs and then served as his dealer for years before cutting him off.

The 40-year-old Kierstead was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center for evaluation after the shooting and was transferred to the Knox County Jail over the weekend. Police have said the 40-year-old Kierstead was suffering from an undisclosed medical problem.
