VASSALBORO — Defending Class C state champion St. Dominic of Auburn defeated Winthrop 6 1/2-1/2 for the Mountain Valley Conference golf championship Monday on the Arrowhead Course at Natanis Golf Course. Zach DeBlois of St. Dom’s was medalist with 37 and joined his teammates in posting a four-person score of 161. Winthrop shot a team score of 180.

Winthrop defeated Madison in the semifinals 4-3. Winthrop sophomore Taylor Morang was the medalist with 37 while the Ramblers shot a team score of 172 to Madison’s 188. Wiscasset defeated Madison 5-2 to capture third place. Darren Wood of the Wolverines was medalist with 38.

The MVC will hold its conference qualifier for state team championships Wednesday at Natanis. Of the eight Class C teams, the top three will qualify for Saturday’s team championship at Natanis. The low score among the three Class B teams in the MVC will also qualify. Also the low 11 scores plus ties qualfiy for the state individual championship to be held Oct. 13 at Natanis.

Field hockey

Telstar 3, Hall-Dale 1: Rebecca Howard scored three straight goals, all unassisted, to lead the Rebels to the MVC win in Bethel. Hali Barter made two saves (2-9-0).

Brooke Berberich scored off an assist from Shanay Gilbert for Hall-Dale (1-10-0). Hannah Perry made four saves.

Gardiner 3, Mt. Blue 1: Ellen Kelley scored two goals and Brooke Davis added another to lead the Tigers to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B win at Thomas College.

Davis also added an assist as the Tigers improved to 8-3.

Sarita Crandall scored a goal and Mikala Oswald added an assist to pace the Cougars (5-6).

Erskine 5, Lincoln 0: Michelle Lemelin had a goal and two assists to lead the Eagles to the KVAC B win in Newcastle. Amber Church scored two goals for the winners while Sarah Jordan and Emma Robinson had single goals. Marissa Jordan added an assist. Lexi Soucy made four saves in goal for Erskine (2-10-0) while Andrea Call made 21 for Lincoln (0-12-0).

Girls soccer

Monmouth 3, Boothbay 0: Three different players scored as the Mustangs remained unbeaten in MVC play. Kylie Kemp opened the scoring with an unassisted goal late in the first half. Madison Bumann made it 2-0 with Kemp assisting, then assisted on a score from Caroline Bonefant.

Adriane Gonzales made four saves for Monmouth (10-0-0) while Mikayla McFetridge made 10 for Boothbay (0-10-1).

St. Dominic 3, Hall-Dale 0: The Saints outshot the Bulldogs 16-6 en route to the MVC win in Auburn. Kelley McLellan, Emma Bryne and Emily Caron scored for the Saints. Kelly Pomerleau made four saves for St. Dom’s (9-1-1) while Olivia Maynard had 13 saves (7-3-1).
