AUGUSTA — The Maine Public Health Association is holding is annual fall conference today at the Augusta Civic Center. Keynote speakers are physicians, Sheila Pinette, director of the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Dora Anne Mills, former director and current vice president of clinical affairs a the University of New England.

They will discuss “identifying, creating and sustaining collaborative partnerships within and outside our public health system,” according to a press release from the group.

About 300 public health professionals are expected to attend the meeting.

Homeless veterans stand down Saturday

The VA Maine Healthcare System is hosting its 15th annual Maine Homeless Veterans Stand Down from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Togus campus.

All Maine homeless veterans are invited to participate. The stand down offers homeless veterans new clothes, footwear, toiletries, showers, haircuts, reading glasses and applications for benefits, housing information and legal services. For more information call 623-8411 ext. 5408.
