Maine has the distinction of having politicians known for their truthfulness and their political courage in exemplifying it.

Because of that, several have been chosen to represent the United States in key positions. In recent years, however, Maine has been subjected to gutter-level political campaigning.

Were it not for Daniel Swain of Canaan, Democratic candidate for House District 28, it would be hard to recall the days of Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, Ed Muskie and George Mitchell.

Swain brings honor to his native Mainer label. He has knocked on countless doors, listened intently to our concerns and made it his mission to represent them fairly.

Swain wants to restore integrity to politics, and he is doing it the hard way: as a Maine Clean Elections candidate. It is time to wipe the slate clean in Augusta.

I hope others will join me and vote for Swain.
