I oppose same-sex marriage, and urge Maine voters to vote no on Question 1 on Nov. 6 to stop same-sex marriage from becoming law.

God created man and woman in his image, blessed them and told them to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1-27 & 28)

This commandment created marriage between a man and a woman only. This is the marriage standard that is designed to preserve civilization.

We respect and honor men and women couples that cannot bear children, but adopt children to form a family unit. Their love and charity for adopted children are a blessing and an example to all.

Same-sex marriage is a man-made, selfish concept that dilutes the purpose of the marriage institution and is a total contradiction of what God created for the well-being of mankind.

God also created living creatures and plants of every kind and designed the means for each species to reproduce. This is known as “The Order of Being” as logically defined by St. Thomas Aquinas the Great.

Only a true parental relationship of a mother and father’s love is able to cope with the hardships and tribulations of parenthood, especially when a family member is disabled.

All living human begins are a product of male and female parents. If the marriage institution is allowed to include nonbearing same-sex partners for selfish reasons, the destiny of mankind is threatened.

We express no ill will against our gay brothers and sisters; however, we cannot accept same-sex marriage.
