I’m disappointed that two weeks before Election Day there has been no reporting or discussion about the Questions 2-5 bond initiatives.
In an era of budgetary woes and program cuts, it would be helpful to have some in-depth analysis of the pros and cons of each initiative. Instead there are crickets online and in print, and all I have to go on is the League of Women Voters easy-to-read voter guide.
The arguments for yes are jobs, growth and the obvious benefits to the recipients. The arguments for no are more debt and other programs are more worthy. Well, duh.
Maybe I could use a moderate-to-read-for-the-engaged-and-interested voter guide? On paper these are great investments and programs with up to 5:1 federal matching funds (debt). However, I have no idea if Maine can afford to add another $84 million to the balance sheet.
