During the past six years, I have served as Augusta’s Ward 1 councilor, and have been pleased and proud to witness the leadership demonstrated by “Big Dave” Rollins, councilor at-large. Some of his “big” accomplishments have included:
* Facilitating the setting up of the “Business Academy” at Cony High School, allowing the next generation of entrepreneurs and businessmen and women to get a “head start.”
* Chairing the Historic District Ordinance sub-committee, which, in concert with the Augusta Historic Preservation Commission, is working to preserve and promote our capital city’s vast historic residential and urban sites and structures.
* As councilor, Rollins has provided energy, enthusiasm and direction to the public/private partnership that is upgrading the Alumni Field complex.
* Recognizing Rollins’ leadership skills, the Council appointed him as interim mayor last year. I’m looking forward to serving another term with “Big Dave” Rollins.
