RICHMOND — Voters in Tuesday’s election approved the same state building code they’d rejected at the annual town meeting earlier this year.
Residents voted 815-753 to adopt the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code, according to unofficial results.
The town was without a code since voters at the annual town meeting in April rejected adopting the state code. Residents at the time said the code was not necessary and would increase the cost of building projects.
Selectmen, however, voted after the town meeting to place the code issue on the November secret ballot as a local referendum question.
Also Tuesday, voters elected Peter Warner to fill an unexpired term on the Board of Selectmen, until the June town elections. The position became vacant when Daniel Dunton resigned from the post earlier this year.
Warner received 546 votes, topping both Timothy Arnold, who received 480 votes, and Fred Browne, who received 472 votes.
