TOGUS –Stewart M. Buzzell advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony at the VA Maine Healthcare System.

The ceremony started with a Color Guard presentation. Eagle Scout Joe Manduca played the bugle.

The 12 Candle Scout Law ceremony was performed by Boy Scout Troop 654 of Monmouth. Guest speakers included Sen. Earle McCormick and Rep. Mel Newendyke; Monica Beaulieu and Robert Coro II, both of VA Maine HCS; Kennebec Valley District Reps. Pete Myers and Charlie Ferguson; and Tom Manduca and Scott Davidson representing Troop 654. Buzzell’s uncle Carroll Patterson gave the invocation and benediction.

Buzzell’s father, Scout Master Scott Buzzell, ended the ceremony with his son’s dedication to all veterans, including Reginald Gastonguay and his grandfather Luther Stewart Buzzell. Eight veterans were able to attend the ceremony.

Buzzell has received more than 30 merit badges. He has attended numerous summer and winter camps and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

For his Eagle project, Buzzell built three wheelchair accessable raised beds at the VA Maine HCS to allow veterans there to grow vegetables and maintain the beds. Buzzell received donations of materials and loam from businesses and community members.

Buzzell also completed an Eagle service project report itemizing materials used, number of man hours, list of donations, and portfolio of pictures of the job in progress to be presented to the Eagle Board.

Buzzell, 16, is a junior at Monmouth Academy. He is the son of Scott and Sherry Buzzell.
