FARMINGTON — The stairs connecting Main and Front streets are now open for business.
According to a press release Franklin Savings Bank built the staircase and a 14-spot public parking area as part of a partnership with the town. The concrete stairs are heated to prevent snow and ice buildup.
The stairs provide a preferable alternative to climbing the bank and a convenience to University of Maine at Farmington students and Front Street businesses, customers and residents.
The parking spaces at the foot of the stairs are open for public use 7 a.m.-midnight. Overnight parking is not allowed. Similarly, the other bank and Western Mountain Financial Services parking spots on the west side of Front Street are available for public parking 6 p.m.-midnight, Monday-Friday, and 7 a.m.-midnight weekends, when the bank is not open. Overnight parking is not allowed.
