AUGUSTA — Sherman Kostick has been named Veteran of the Month for November at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

Kostick was born on Dec. 21, 1930. He entered the military on Feb. 15, 1952. Due to injuries sustained after falling through a bridge during military maneuvers — two days before his company was to ship out — Kostick was honorably discharged.

Kostick worked with his father for many years running the family furniture business, taking over the business after his father died.

Kostick’s hobbies have included fishing on Cobbossee Lake, hunting and skeet shooting. Kostick plays the saxophone and once belonged to a 15-piece swing band.

Over the years he and his wife have raised many Collies. They currently have a Collie, Sammy, and a mop dog, Rusty, who are regular visitors to the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He has a son, Benjamin, of Florida. A daughter, Sharon, passed away previously. He has been married to his wife, Laurie, for 27 years. He also has a brother, Milton, who lives in Florida.
