FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently announced the following events that are free and open to the public unless otherwise stated:

* Maine Helpers Program Training Part 1 will begin at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, in Room 103, UMF Education Center. This program is a half-day training conducted at University of Maine at Farmington by Certified Helpers Trainers. After completing this training you will have the skills needed to talk with someone about their tobacco use in a friendly and effect manner. * Mathematics Hour: Gale-Shapley Algorithm is set for 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Room 205, UMF Ricker Addition. In January of 1962 David Gale and Lloyd Shapley published a light hearted paper in the American Mathematical Monthly, College Admissions and the Stability of Marriage. They present an algorithm for envy free matching; establishing contracts in markets without prices. Since 1962 Dr. Gale has died and Alvin Roth has used the algorithm to do matchings which have been beneficial to society. * Maine Helpers Program Training Part 2, is scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Room 103, UMF Education Center. Must have attended Nov. 12 training to qualify for certificate. After completing this training you will have the skills needed to talk with someone about their tobacco use in a friendly and effect manner. * Saving and Investing as a College Student, will begin at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 26, in Lincoln Auditorium, UMF Roberts Learning Center. The UMF Peer Financial Assistants will be presenting an Educational Workshop on Saving+Investing as a College Student. The PFAs will be joined by guest speaker, and UMF Alumnus, Paul Spizzuoco a Certified Financial Planner at UBS. For more information: PFA@umf.maine.edu, 778-7592.
