SOLON — The Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Maine Forest Service will host a walk in the woods from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 17, with SWOAM member Peter Pfeiffer, who has been thinning his brother’s pine plantation on his tree farm in South Solon for the past 30 years. They will explore the crop tree selection over the decades and see examples of directional felling and minimal-damage logging.

Directions: go up East Madison Road; cross Route 43; drive about a mile and look for a big — approximately 28 acres — pine plantation on the left with a tree farm sign with Rob Pfeiffer’s name on it. For more information, call Patty Cormier at 592-2238, or email patty.cormier@maine.gov.
