ORONO — Xavier Pollard scored 15 points and had 12 assists, both career highs, to lead Maine to its first victory this season, 72-66 over Siena in a nonconference game Sunday.

The sophomore guard assisted on four straight baskets by the Black Bears (1-4) as they turned a 40-39 deficit into a 49-40 lead with 13:37 remaining.

Three of those baskets were by Justin Edwards, who led Maine’s scorers with 19 points. Alasdair Fraser added 17 points and also had nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

After the Saints (2-4) cut the lead to 49-45, Pollard nailed a 3-pointer, Edwards added two baskets and Fraser one to make it 58-45 with 8:20 to play.

Evan Hymes scored 20 points for Siena and Rakeem Brookins had 15, including 10 in the first half when the Saints took a 36-33 lead. O.D. Anosike had 12 points and 20 rebounds, his sixth double-double this season.

Colby 4, UMass-Boston 3 OT: Megan Fortier scored with just 16 seconds left in overtime to lead the Mules to the non-conference win in Boston.

Annie Papadellis had two goals for Colby (2-2) while Samantha Slotnick had a goal and an assist. Brianne Wheeler made 31 saves.

Dylan Caron scored twice for UMass-Boston while Emily LaRosa had the other goal. Casey Schaejbe made 25 saves.

Men’s hockey

Salve Regina 4, Colby 3: William Gomolinski scored the game-winning goal 1:38 into the third period to lead the Seahawks to the win at the Bowdoin-Colby Face-Off Classic in Waterville.

Marc Biggs, Michael Naso and Cameron Gaudet also scored for Salve Regina (3-6). Mike McDonald made 22 saves.

Nick Lanza scored twice for Colby (1-4) while Mike DeBello had the other goal. Matt Delaney stopped 22 shots in net.
