BANGOR — A Maine woman charged with sex crimes involving a 7-year-old boy has withdrawn her guilty plea after the judge in the case determined the agreed upon sentence was too short.

Katie Dube of Glenburn was scheduled to plead guilty Monday to five counts of gross sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. The prosecution asked for a 17-year sentence, while her defense attorney recommended a seven- to 10-year sentence.

But District Court Judge Bruce Jordan said that the 27-year-old Dube should spend between 21 and 25 years behind bars.

That prompted a tearful and apologetic Dube to withdraw her plea and opt for a jury trial.

Prosecutors say Dube and her former boyfriend abused the boy over several months earlier this year.
