KEENE, N.H. — Keene State’s Christan Wojtas hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left, lifing the Owls to a 58-57 women’s basketball victory over Colby in the consolation game of the Kenne State Holiday Tournament on Tuesday.

Colby (4-6) previously lost 63-60 to Salve Regina in the same tournament.

The Mules led 30-22 at halftime, but Keene State began the second half on a 23-7 run to lead 45-37 with less than eight minutes to go. With the score tied at 55, Colby’s Diana Manduca hit a jumper with 26 seconds left to give the Mules the lead. After Wojtas hit her 3-pointer, Colby missed a shot in the final seconds.

Siobhan Carnell led Keene State (4-6) with 28 points and nine rebounds. Manduca and Hall-Dale graduate Carylanne Wolfington each scored 11 points for Colby, while Waterville grad Jen Nale had eight points. The Mules made 17 of their 18 foul shots. Wolfington was named to the all-tournament team.

Virginia Commonwealth 82, Maine 47: The Rams led by just eight early in the second half, but dominated the rest of the way to defeat the Black Bears in Richmond, Va.

Robyn Parks led VCU (7-7) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Leavitt graduate Courtney Anderson had a career-high 15 points for Maine by going 5 for 7 from 3-point land. Danielle Walczak added 11 points and eight rebounds for Maine.

VCU was ahead 35-24 at the half and 37-29 shortly after. The Rams outscored Maine 45-18 the rest of the way. Maine is now 1-12. The Black Bears had 27 turnovers, compared to 11 for VCU.

Men’s basketball

Eastern Nazarene 99, Thomas 81: Eric Lynch scored 22 points in 15 minutes of play to lead the Lions to the victory in Quincy, Mass.

Jaylen Owens chipped in with 15 points and 11 assists for Eastern Nazarene (5-2).

Freshman Levi Barnes of Skowhegan led Thomas (5-3) with 22 points off the bench. Franklin Salvador hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, Stanley Greene, Jr. had 12 points and five steals and Garen Manzo scored 11 points.

Springfield 75, Colby 57: Jordan Rote scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Pride to the win in the opening round of the Naismith Classic at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

Alex Berthiaume added 14 points for Springfield while Josh Altman chipped in 13.

The Mules (2-7) were led by Ryan Jann with 13 points and Shane Rogers with 10. Colby plays in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. today.
