RICHMOND — A woman used a pair of toilet plungers to ward off an attack by her boyfriend over the weekend, police said.
Blake Sandelin, 31, of Richmond, was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault, according to

Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster. Sandelin was later released from the Richmond Police Department on $1,000 unsecured bail.

When police arrived at the woman’s Front Street apartment around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, they found two plungers, one of which was broken, in the bedroom and living room. The 21-year-old woman told police she used them to defend herself from Sandelin’s attack.

She said the fight broke out when she arrived home to find Sandelin had broken into her apartment. She said Sandelin hit her and strangled her and at one point shoved his fingers down her throat, MacMaster said.

“It apparently was an attempt to stop her from screaming,” MacMaster said.

The woman suffered what are believed to be minor injuries to her leg, back and face, MacMaster said.

“She had a visible injury on her lip,” MacMaster said, and she was not taken to the hospital.
Sandelin is scheduled to appear in Sagadahoc County district court in West Bath Feb. 12.
