SKOWHEGAN — Larry Ross, a retired school teacher at Margaret Chase Smith School in Skowhegan, was honored at a luncheon hosted by the Maine State Society of Washington, D.C. as the 2012 recipient of the Big M Award last December.

The Maine State Society serves as a home away from home for Mainers living and working in the Washington area.

The Big M Award is given annually to a Mainer, or to a person with strong Maine ties, to recognize contribution and service to the state and its citizens or to the state’s role in the affairs of the nation; or for attaining the highest levels of achievement in the recipient’s profession; or for exemplifying the finest attributes of concerned citizens involved in State or National affairs, events, projects or programs.

Ross had more than 50 students and parents from the Margeret Chase Smith in attendance with him at the luncheon to recognize his achievement.
