PORTLAND — Baxter Academy, located in the Old Port, is accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year for ninth- and 10th-graders. This is a nonresidential, grades 9-12 charter public high school for any Maine student.

The academy will provide customized project-based learning for each student focusing on science, mathematics, engineering, technology and interesting humanities such as Chinese history, screenwriting and moral philosophy. Enrichment classes are also available after school.

An open house will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at 54 York St. All are welcome.

Enrollment information sessions will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 14 and Feb. 25 at the Glickman Library, University of Southern Maine.

A blind lottery will be held March 8 if applications exceed available spots. For more information or applications, visit baxteracademy.org.
