BUCKSPORT — The Madison wrestling team turned in some strong individual performances at the Western C championships Saturday, but Dirigo that cruised to the team title.

Dirigo had seven individual champions to finish with 181 points. Madison finished second with 106 points.

Ryan Malcolm was the lone individual winner for the Bulldogs. He took the 285-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Aaron Lint of Winslow.

Griffyn Smith (106 pounds), Jesse Hutchinson (145), Brett Whittemore (152), Thomas Barnett (160), DJ Webber (170), Nelson Pepin (182) and Zach White (220) all won individual titles for the Cougars.

Madison’s Josh Shull was the runner-up in the 106-pound class. Cody Saucier (152), Matthew McLaughlin (170) and Derrin Moreshead (182) also posted second-place finishes.

For Winslow, which finished sixth, Anthony Salisbury reached the finals of the 160-pound division, where he was pinned by Barnett. Sean Cote (220) finished second while Nat Beckwith was third in the 195-pound class.

Camden Hills won the Eastern C championship with 182 points. Belfast was second with 138 while MCI finished fifth.

MCI’s Dylan Dahlberg won the 120-pound championship with a 19-9 decision over John Underhill of Camden Hills.

Trevor Kitchin also had a strong day for the Huskies. He reached the 152-pound finals, where he lost an 11-1 decision to Joe Wright of Ellsworth.

Fryeburg won the Western B title with 176.5 points while Wells was second with 153. Gardiner was fifth with 88 points.

Gardiner senior Daniel Del Gallo earned the 138-pound championship.

He won his first two matches by pin before scoring a 17-2 decision over Hunter Day of Fryeburg Academy in the finals.

Del Gallo pinned Jack Bouchard, of York, in 1 minute, 17 seconds to begin his day. He then pinned Miranda Achorn, of Lincoln Academy, in 48 seconds.

Gardiner freshman Peter Del Gallo, Daniel’s younger brother, also won an individual championship in the 106-pound division.

He also had two pins, including one in the finals against Kyle Bonti of Morse. Del Gallo pinned Bonti in 4:36.

“In the beginning it was challenging,” Peter Del Gallo said, “because I had trouble taking him down. But then I started hitting my moves.”

Andrew Doody-Veilleux, Jacob Truman and Mitchell Chesley also had big days for the Tigers.

Doody-Veilleux finished second in the 220-pound class. He lost a 15-0 decision to Alex Mercurio of York in the final. Truman (170) and Chesley (195) each won consolation final matches.
