I greatly appreciate the Morning Sentinel’s report about the efforts of the East Pond Association to improve the water quality of our lake. I do wish to clarify one point, however.

While very high concentrations of some types of algae may be harmful, I believe that the Maine Department of Environmental Protection is on record stating that no lake in Maine has ever become a potential threat.

While at times aesthetically unpleasant, the blooms in East Pond have, for the most part, been of relatively short duration, and have not had a negative impact on the fish population.

Additionally, I served as a selectman in Smithfield, not Sidney.
