AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Alec Finigan had a pair of doubles and a triple as the Colby baseball team beat Fontbonne 16-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday. The Mules came back to win the second game 8-6 in eight innings.

Colby improves to 5-1 and faces Thomas in a doubleheader in Florida on Friday.

Finigan had three hits and drove in three runs, while Cony High School graduate Luke Duncklee had a double for Colby.

Colby’s Soren Hanson earned his first collegiate victory in the opener, allowing five hits, striking out five and walking none.

In the second game, Fontbonne scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6. John Schroeder had a one-out triple and scored on a single by Tyler Starks to give Colby the win. Nathan Ellis singled to drive in Starks with an insurance run.

Southern Maine 10-19, Thomas 1-12: Erskine Academy graduate Nick Grady had a double, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice as the Huskies beat the Terriers in the first game of a doubleheader  in Auburndale, Fla.

The Huskies won the second game 19-12. No further information was available on Game 2.

In the opener, Messalonskee graduate Sam Dexter added a double and an RBI for USM (8-3).

Waterville graduate Tim Locke took the loss for Thomas, allowing five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Men’s lacrosse

Colby 18, St. Joseph’s 0: Garth Franklin scored four goals as the Mules beat the Monks in Waterville.

Kris Molinaro and John Alex each added three goals for Colby, while Mark Phillips and Greg McKillop each had two. John Grimaldi, Keith Fairbrother, Whit Harwood and Chip Grossman each had a goal for the Monks, while Grimaldi and McKillop each had two assists.

Crew

Lanier Sprints: The Colby College crews each won open 8 competitions in Gainesville, Ga.

The Colby men’s team of Sylvia Vu (coxswain), Nate Krump (8), Noah Teachey (7), James Rabjohns (6), Tim Dutton (5), Charlie Leds (4), Ryan Newell (3), Pat Adams (2) and Ian Tibbetts (1), defeated the LSU Rowing Club and the Riverside Military Academy.

The Colby women’s team of Eliza Gesten (coxswain), Becca Herman (8), Justine Seraganian (7), Katrina Chicojay Moore (6), Molly Clark (5), Sophie Suechting (4), Jessie Lunde (3), Megan Cullinane (2) and Astrid Moore (1) beat the LSU Rowing team.
