FORT LEONARD WOOD Mo. — Sgt. Ryan C. McCarthy recently graduated from the U.S. Army Sapper Leader School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. This rigorous and competitive 28-day school trains soldiers on advanced combat engineer techniques such as demolitions, mountaineering, patrolling and waterborne combat operations. Graduates are awarded the prestigious Sapper Tab upon successful completion of the program.
McCarthy is assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y. He is the son of Ted and Wendy McCarthy, of Belgrade.
