WHITEFIELD — The Whitefield Historical Society has been awarded a $1,000 grant as part of the Maine Historical Records Advisory Program, administered by the Maine State Archives and funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

The grant will be used to purchase four powder-coated steel bookcases that will increase archival storage space for historical materials kept in the organization’s headquarters, the 1843 Town House.

The work of cataloging and arranging the collection will be headed by historical society archivists Marie Sacks and Libby Harmon, with the help of volunteers Ann Niles, Harriet Vaughan and Linda Puffer.
