WATERVILLE — Bethanie L. Brown, a Waterville Senior High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2013 Maine Principals’ Association Award, given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.

Brown is the daughter of Ted and Karol Brown, of Waterville. Brown plans to attend the University of Connecticut to study pre-pharmacy and plans to participate on the schools division I cross country and track and field teams. She has been an active member of her school community as a member of the National Honor Society serving as President for 2013, a Student Ambassador and Homeroom Buddy, a member of the Strings Program since fourth grade (violin) and has participated in the Poetry Out Loud Competitions at the school and state level. Brown is an accomplished athlete in cross country and track and field and has received numerous awards for being the top athlete in her field of competition.

Brown, along with Waterville Senior High School Principal Don Reiter, will join other award winners and their principals at an Honors Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor.

Honorees are recognized with an individual plaque and the chance to win one of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Maine Principals’ Association. This prestigious award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
