BELGRADE — Sabine Fontaine, of Belgrade, a Messalonskee High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principals’ Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship, according to a press release.

“Throughout her years at Messalonskee High, Sabine has distinguished herself in the classroom as well as being a leader in the school and the community. Sabine is a member of the National Honor Society and math team, a co-captain of the Robotics team and section leader in band. In addition, she tutors students in Algebra II at the Middle School. Sabine is very deserving of this recognition,” Principal Jon Moody noted in making the award, according to the release.

Award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
