AUGUSTA — Oakland town manager Peter Nielsen recently became the president of the Maine Municipal Association, according to a news release from the organization.

Nielsen, of Winthrop, succeeded Stephan Bunker, who lost his bid for re-election to Farmington’s Board of Selectmen in March and was unable to keep his association position because of its bylaws.

Nielsen was vice president of the assocation before he was sworn in as its president on March 28.

Before Nielsen started working in Oakland as town manager in 2008, he was manager in Wilton, Wayne and Clinton. He also was on the Winthrop Town Council from 1985 to 1990.
