HARPSWELL — The state medical examiner has been asked to examine the body of a 28-year-old Harpswell man who was found dead on Bailey Island Thursday morning.

Investigators found no sign of trauma on the body to indicate that the death was suspicious.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Ryan Johnson of Harpswell who was last seen by his mother, whom he lived with, at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The family has been notified of his death, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators initially responded to Garrison Cove Road in Harpswell for a report of a body on the shore.

The call was received at 9:25 a.m. Thursday for a person who had fallen overboard, but later information indicated it was a body on the beach.

The body was found near Cook’s Lobster House on Bailey Island, authorities said. A woman answering the phone there said they had no comment about the report.
