BINGHAM — Seth Malloy reached on a fielders choice, moved to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on an error in the first inning and the run stood up as freshman Cody Lawyerson pitched a gem in the Valley baseball team’s 1-0 win over Forest Hills on Tuesday.

Lawyerson pitched a complete game shutout, allowed two hits, struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter for Valley (1-0). He needed just 67 pitches to complete his outing. He also had a double, and Justin Miller had a single for Valley’s only two hits.

Matt Turner and Evan Worster combined to allow just two hits in the loss for Forest Hills (0-1). Turner started and gave up one hit, struck out four and walked four in four innings of work. Worster came on in the fifth and allowed one hit, while striking out two.

Worster and Nathan Jalbart each singled for Forest Hills.

Forest Hills 8, Valley 6: The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning en route to the East/West Conference win in Bingham in the season opener for both teams.

Jocelyn Hoyt led the winners with three hits while Dana McNally, Anna Aarrier and Caitlin Logston each had two.

Dalayne Davis, Megan Hedin, Kirsten Mathieu and Charlie Savoy had two hits apiece for Valley.

Girls lacrosse

Messalonskee 10, Mt. Ararat 7: Kristen Kern scored four goals and Kristy Bernatchez added three to lead the Eagles to the Class A win in topsham in their season opener. Sydney Gagne contributed two goals and two assists for the winenrs while teammate Mikayla Turner added a goal. Rebecca Shuman added three goals for Mt. Ararat.

Izzy Skinner made seven saves in goal for Messalonskee while Bailey Sullivan had nine for Mt. Ararat (1-1).
